the march for women's lives was pretty awesome. i wasn't overwhelmed with joy or rage as i generally am at demonstration-type things, but it was a good thing to go to and i'm glad i went. i really don't feel like writing a big entry type thing, so i'll just quote my favorite signs:

pro-choice

"another unicorn for choice" (this was held by a tall skinny white boy. it was a NARAL sign that said "another ____ for choice" and you'd write something in like "dyke" or "husband" or something like that.

"warning: dangerous fanatics ahead" (held by a hippie standing on a truck as we went towards pennsylvania ave. it was true!)

"bush is a load that barbara shoulda swallowed" (OH SNAP!)

also i saw a few little girls with their mom holding signs that said "we rock!" and "listen to girls!". and a dude who looked older than me wearing a shirt that said "teenyboppers for choice", which was definately the best.

anti-choice

(obviously, i don't really like these signs, but some were kinda hysterical)

"'what have i done to deserve this?'-unborn child" (because, you know, fetuses can give lucid quotes. shannon said, "where the hell is that fetus? i want to meet it! i want to ask why it said such a stupid thing!")

there was a little girl holding a sign with a cute cartoon whale that said "save the baby humans!"

the absolute worst was a teenage whiteboy wearing a handmade shirt that said, 'it isn't your body, it's the BABY'S.' and looking out at the crowd with a smirk on his face and just the most sickening sense of entitlement. if i hadn't yet realized how fucked the world is, seeing that boy for ten seconds would definately have been enough to make me realize. seeing that crew-cutted college age boy act like he fucking KNOWS what it's like to be pregnant; knowing that the people who make laws governing our bodies would give him a hell of a lot more credibility than they would an actual uterus-owner; seeing that he was going to do what it took to stop us from having any control over our lives just made me want to throw myself onto the pavement and sob. or punch him. i did neither, though. there were some hilarious counter-demonstraters without signs (including a dude painted to look like a skeleton yelling stuff.)

it was fun and i'm glad i went. i'll try to post pictures when i get them back, if anyone's interested. also, i fucking love the people i went with & i'm glad we're friends. i have lots of hilarious out of context quotes that everyone said. i'll never look at a scotsman the same way again.
