2003-11-26 - 9:02 p.m. this one goes out to the long islanders (please note that i just got drunk with my dad & brother, so i might not be at my intellectual peak): when i was in seventh grade, i took such genuine, quiet joy in Z100. wow, i thought, a radio station with witty djs, that plays lots of hole and smashing pumpkins. what more can i ask for? my brother and i always used to tune in for the "five o' clock whistle" on fridays. the way that guy yelled "IT'S THE WEEKEND!" i just loved everything about it. now, of course, i can't even listen for a minute. but. how about this: parkways. girls with long perms and high-heeled boots belting out musical theatre songs. kids in hoodies in shopping centers. that accent. that fucking accent. good pizza. middle aged men bellowing opinions. aggressive driving. secretly cool people, everywhere. IT HAS BEEN TEN YEARS AND YET EVERY TIME I AM ON LONG ISLAND I SWEAR I SEE SOMEONE WHO LOOKS LIKE AMY FISHER. I AM SO NOT KIDDING. yeah, every time i go back here, it's like i never left.
